Motion Paths - Edit animation directly in the viewport The fact that this is “one line” doesn’t serve it justice because of the amount of stuff packed in this. Further updates will come from Solid Angle. It’s tough to please everyone, but I can say that 3ds Max 2018 fixes some major issues present in 3ds Max 2017, speeds up other features, and includes the following (this list is courtesy of Chip Weatherman, Senior 3ds Max Designer):Īrnold 5 integrated directly into 3ds Max. Others want more and more new features and are upset when they don’t see the exact feature that *they* want. Some people want absolutely no new features, just improvements and defect fixes for the existing software. Bell here (3ds Max old-timer, and now back at Autodesk)…Įvery release, we (Autodesk) hear two mutually-exclusive comments from two different groups of vocal users. I can try the scene converter again, but MAX acts like it has no idea what the Glow material ever was.Jon A. I can't find anything equivalent in MAX 2023 as near as I can tell, only MentalRay did this.

MentalRay had a "Glow" material that did this it made the glow volumetric instead of a mere post effect. One of the biggest challenges I face with MAX is that it tries so hard to make things look realistic that it becomes difficult to make something stylized or imaginative, and certainly not simply.ĮXAMPLE: Making something glow, like a lightsaber blade, with more of a nimbus effect, where the glow stays the same size relative to the object rather than relative to the screen.

(The project is called "Quinn Redshift", and it's on YouTube I won't post the link here, but if you like Star Wars-y sci-fi.) MAX completely gagged on most of my scenes because of deprecated functions and features. For a long time, I was using MAX 2013 it was all I could afford and I was in the middle of a huge project trying to convert it to a new version of MAX before it was done seemed potentially problematic.and it all kinds of would have been.
